Though it might be possible for a handful
of folks to maintain the FMPSC, we want everyone to have the
opportunity to help out on the WALL. We all own it. We are a large body
of people who have countless talents and an abundance of experience. Volunteering
to help to maintain the FMPSC site gives every wallaby a chance to use
their skills and experience - perhaps in a new way - or to learn new skills. Volunteers do not
necessarily have to know how to do web pages or html, though if anyone wants to learn how to do pages, there
are a number of tutorials on-line:

Members of the BLTeam can provide support.
Just let us know!
Please take a few minutes to read over how
the FMPSC works and if you see some task that you would like to do,
or if you think of some other way to help out, let us know!! Email us at:
A short history of the various pages of the
FMPSC
Frequently wallabies recommend certain
sites on the 'net. About 5 years ago the wallaby who was trimming the WALL
thought it would be good to make the links in the posts a direct link to
the specific url. About 3 months later, she thought that it might be also
be a good thing to list these links at the top of the WALL. With new links
being added every week, the listings at the top of the WALL soon became
bigger than the posts. A new page was set up with all of the recommended
url's. Soon the new page was organized into categories. The next logical
step was to set up pages for the individual categories. That led to the
FMPSC as we see it today.
How it works
Since we all have fibro and cannot count on
being well enough to participate at any given time, it was decided that
the site would be managed and maintained by different teams if possible.
Teams allow individuals to be active when they are able and, without guilt,
to take time out when they are not able. We hope to have many different teams
to make up the larger FMPSC team:
the Page teams
the Link teams
the Mail team
We welcome volunteers to make the page/s they
maintain unique and individual. However, wallabies who volunteer can expect
to add items to their pages that they may not personally agree with. The
FMPSC wants everyone to feel welcome. We recognize that wallabies come
from all over the world, have various life styles, hold different political,
religious and other views and bring a wide variety of experience with them.
Therefore, the FMPSC does not allow any statement, link or graphic depicting
violence or indicating a preference for any one country, religion, race,
creed or sexual orientation.
Page Teams
Members keep the various pages
current with up-to-date information. Volunteers do not necessarily have
to know html to be part of a team. The team members who do not know html
are valuable to the team through brainstorming about the appearance and/or
content of the page, gathering information for the page, etc.
For instance, if there was a team of 4 for
the Suggested Reading site, and 1 volunteer knew html, there would
still be 4 folks looking for and collecting suggested reading material.
If the actual person who maintains the page is tired, out of energy, etc.,
the rest of the team could be saving links to be added when the html person
is back, or forward to the blteam for addition.
Action
Page Links to politicians, snail mail addresses of politicians,
petitions, any action that we can take to promote awareness of FMS, or
protest actions of doctors, politicians etc. This team would put appropriate
information that they come upon as they roam the net, or put appropriate
information here that appears on the Wall. The team would also check the
timeliness of each item on a bi-monthly basis e.g. petition out of date,
or link no longer works or gov't changes. Also ensure that the source of
the petition wants their email address listed or just that of the organization.
Contests
Contests to be run intermittently... set up contest page, accept and post
submissions, set up the voting process, announce winners. Eeach team will
decide whether or not to offer prizes. Prizes should not be costly for
the team, nor should they cost the winner anything. It is perfectly fine
to not offer a prize. Only one contest at a time should be run to save
space and confusion on the main Wall.
Information
Provide links to current, timely, general information about FMS,
alternate remedies, doctor referral information, abstracts and recent studies,
other support and information sites, medications and more. Volunteers will
be responsible for checking the links for active status and removing those
no longer working, and adding new links as found or suggested by fellow
fm'ers.
Support
Links to sites that provide support for fm or chronic pain, sites like
the wall, shn ... these would include sites specifically for young fm folks,
male support groups, gay and lesbian support sites, family and friends
of fm folks, etc...
Misc.
links To miscellaneous sites that are not necessarily connected
to fm... include such sites as: check if warning email is hoax or see only
good news or get a coupon for a hug, opportunites for home learning etc.
Arts
Site for displaying wallaby arts... poetry, prose, canvas art, computer
art, camera art, and crafts. the team would be responsible for managing
the size of the displays, keeping in mind that our space is not infinite,
thus removing older displays to make room for new. The team should not
pass judgement on any one piece and may not censor what is submitted. only
something that is pornography or oppressive may be rejected. the individual
who submits such an item should be notified (in an honest and caring way)
of the reason for the rejection.
Fibro
friendly recipes Recipes that are tasty, inexpensive and easy
to make.
Home
pages Provide links to the home pages of wallabies, check
links regularly to ensure none out of date. The home pages need not
be FM-related, but pages that fellow wallabies have created and wish to
showcase their various interests, hobbies, families or home-related business.
Photo
pages Photos of wallabies, check email addy's regularly to ensure
none out of date
Events
and Conferences Provide current information on FM/MPS conferences
around the world, provide information for registering for these events,
what their purpose is and posting photos submitted that were taken at various
events. This could be a major conference of various FM societies or a group
of wallabies that met within their own state.
Suggested
Reading Maintain the list by adding new items found, these
can be books, periodicals, pamplets, medical journal articles. Check links
for online sources and articles often to insure they are still valid. Check
validity of the offered choices ie: no crack-pot faith healers just selling
snake oil to "cure" fm. Should add current, valid research and support
reading only.
TheLinks Team
will check pages for out-of-date
links etc.
The Mail Team
In the event that there are too few volunteers we would welcome a person
or team to sort through the mail for the various pages and forward the
messages to the appropriate individual.
If you see some task that you
would like to do, or if you think of some other way to help out, let us
know!! Please email us.
Thank you for your interest in helping to keep
the Wall by and for the fm'ily.
